The role of the Data Engineer is to serve as one of WebbMason's primary delegates to the client, assuring excellence in delivery, high integrity in our relations, and strategic vision for ongoing innovation and problem solving. WebbMason's solutions use a variety of technologies and platforms and require creative problem solving. The ideal candidate is driven, takes initiative, regularly pursues expanded responsibility, and wants to work in a dynamic company. The engineer helps our clients turn data into knowledge so they can make better decisions faster. The engineer will work with clients and other team members to analyze and help define requirements, mine and analyze data, integrate data from a variety of sources, and participate in the design and implementation of reports, algorithms, and other data analysis techniques.

The most important role of the data engineer to is deliver high-quality data pipelines for producing analytics-ready datasets. The analyst will collaborate within cross-functional teams and with clients to clearly define the analytic problem space, specify the detailed scope of data analytics work, develop detailed data engineering plans, and implement. WebbMason Data Engineers will also develop Dataset Design Contracts as the primary artifact for documenting knowledge of data, requirements for new data, and communicating expectations to all parties.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver end-to-end analytics projects, including data ingest, data transformation, data science, and data visualization
  • Design and deploy data models and data pipelines to support analytics projects * Clearly document findings and recommendations that can be shared both internally and externally.
  • Learn and apply proficiently new tools and technologies such as SQL, Hive, QlikSense, Lucidchart, Data Science Studio, SQL developer, etc.
  • Build compelling visualizations and dashboards that address the analytic needs of the end-user/customer
  • Comfortable briefing internal stakeholders on findings
  • Can be trusted with the responsibility to own delivery of small projects that are generally part of a larger project
  • Analyze client data and existing systems architecture to determine whether requirements can be met

Desired Skills and Experience Qualifications:

  • Expertise in SQL and Python. Other languages are a plus - R, SAS, Java, etc.
  • Experience with data and analytics technologies, including RDBMS, ETL, BI, and Hadoop (e.g. Postgres, Oracle, Informatica, DSS, Qlik, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience with agile delivery methodologies. Experience with JIRA a plus.
  • Experience working on Linux command-line * 2+ years of professional experience
  • BS or higher in related field (Mathematics, Computer Science, other hard sciences)

The Data Scientist helps our clients turn data into knowledge so they can make better decisions faster. The Data Scientist will work with clients and other team members to analyze and help define requirements, mine and analyze data, integrate data from a variety of sources, and participate in the design and implementation of reports, algorithms, and other data analysis techniques. The Data Scientist often receives business context and requirements from a Business Analyst, but may interact with the client directly and have lead on requirements development. The Data Scientist may also pass capabilities on to the Information Systems Engineer or Software Developer for production implementation and/or deployment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Integrate and analyze large data sets quickly

  • Expert at design and implementation of new analytic models and methodologies

  • Expert at the execution of implementing models and methodologies using Hadoop tools

  • Highly Proficient at working with disparate sources

  • Highly Proficient at transforming data into a usable state, including addressing and resolving data quality issues

  • Document requirements, analytic methodologies, and results

  • Document analytic solutions such that the implementation can be re-designed as a reusable production capability

  • Advanced conceptual understanding of Big Data systems environment

  • Lead reviews of analytic models and algorithms

  • Demonstrate self-motivation in discovering, learning, and integrating new analytic methods quickly

 

Management of:

  • Assume 5+ years professional experience

  • Assumes ability to meet all above responsibilities and expectations

  • Reports to Data Science Management

The ideal candidate is driven, takes initiative, regularly pursues expanded responsibility, and wants to work in a dynamic small company. The developer helps our clients turn data into knowledge so they can make better decisions faster. The developer will work with clients and other team members to analyze and help define requirements, mine and analyze data, integrate data from a variety of sources, and participate in the design and implementation of data processing systems, algorithms, and other tools.  

 

The developer should have a range of technical knowledge allowing them to understand a distributed information management system from top-to-bottom and left-to-right. They must understand business analysis and data science with a degree of expertise in order to build and deliver components used by analysts, scientists, and other developers to deploy stable, high quality, fully-functional, production capabilities.

 

Requirements

  • Senior: 5+ years professional experience in software development with relevant academic qualifications

  • Mid: 3+ years professional experience in software development with relevant academic qualifications

  • Junior: 1+ years professional experience in software development or comparable academic experience

  • Years of experience in Java EE, SOA, JavaScript, SQL, RDBMS, Design Patterns

  • Proficiency with at least one of the following: Ruby, Python, PHP, JSP

  • Experience with complex algorithms (including search and traversal) and abstract data structures

  • Experience working in a Linux environment

  • Advanced problem solving abilities

  • Comfortable working at a fast pace

  • Proactive communicator

  • Highly self-motivated and able to discover, learn, and integrate new technologies quickly

  • Experience documenting requirements, architecture, and design - ability to produce and communicate using a variety of design documents (UML, technical writing, etc.)

  • Interested in being part of building and shaping a highly innovative development team

Understanding of the following is a plus:

  • Experience with Maven, jRuby, web services, coding standards, SDL

  • Basic Data Analysis or Statistics

  • Hadoop Technologies and Paradigms (MapReduce, Hive, Pig, HBase, Oozie)
